Deep Tissue Massage
The goal of a deep tissue massage is different from most others because the focus is on issues with the skeletal muscle such as strains and sports injuries. The therapist uses continuous pressure during slow and deep strokes to reach the inner layers of muscle and connective tissue. It is common to experience some soreness after a deep tissue massage however, a heating pad and cold packs can help to alleviate some of this soreness.Â
Deep tissue massage uses very firm pressure and may not be safe for everyone. Talk with your physician before getting this massage if you
have blood clots or a clotting disorder
take blood thinners
have a bleeding disorder
have cancer or are receiving cancer treatment
People who have osteoporosis or cancer that has spread to the bone are not advised to get deep tissue massage and should avoid it.
